View Synatel rangeSensing principles
Synatel instruments cover two complementary duties on the plant floor: detecting when motion is lost, and detecting the level or presence of bulk materials. Together they protect rotating machinery and process vessels from common failure modes.
Detects when rotating or linear motion drops below a set threshold, triggering a safety response before a conveyor, shaft or belt slips, stalls or causes a process upset.
Detects the presence or level of solids, powders and liquids by responding to changes in dielectric material between the sensing faces, suited to non-contact level and proximity duties.
Combines pulse generation with evaluation to report rotation, standstill and under-speed states for rotating plant where loss of motion is a hazard.
Why it matters
Underspeed monitoring watches for a drop in rotational speed on conveyors, shafts, feeders and other driven equipment. When motion slows toward standstill, the sensor signals the control system to stop or alarm before a slip turns into a jam, a blockage causes a spill, or a stalled drive damages downstream plant.
Capacitance sensing detects the level or presence of bulk solids, powders and liquids in vessels, chutes and pipes. Because it has no moving floats or mechanical parts, it stays reliable in dusty, sticky or abrasive materials where other level switches struggle.
Used together, these two sensing principles cover the most common causes of unplanned downtime on material handling and process equipment, giving operators early warning of both motion loss and level upset.
Applications
Underspeed and capacitance sensing protects machinery and processes where loss of motion or unexpected material level must be detected early.
Underspeed monitoring on belt conveyors, screw feeders and bucket elevators to detect slip, jam or blockage before mechanical damage or spillage occurs.
Capacitance level sensing for silos, bins and hoppers holding grain, cement, mineral ore and other bulk powders where moving parts and floats are unreliable.
Speed and standstill detection integrated into machinery interlock logic so downstream equipment cannot start or continue when an upstream drive is not running.
Under-speed and standstill feedback on pump shafts, fans and agitators to protect seals, bearings and product quality when rotation is lost.
Selection support
Our team helps you work through the factors that determine which underspeed or capacitance sensing approach suits your application and conditions.
We start by understanding what failure you are protecting against: belt slip, shaft standstill, material bridging, or loss of flow.
For motion we evaluate underspeed and speed detection; for level and presence we evaluate capacitance sensing against your material and vessel geometry.
Temperature, vibration, dust, moisture, mounting access and proximity to other equipment all shape which housing, range and output suit your site.
Relay, transistor and analogue outputs are matched to your control system and safety logic so the signal is usable where it lands.
Local support
Our team offers local sales and technical support for Synatel underspeed and capacitance sensing solutions throughout Australia and New Zealand. From selection guidance through to ongoing support, we help ensure the detection technology you choose is right for your application and conditions.
